To amend the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act to provide for individual and household assistance in the event of a prolonged power outage, and for other purposes.
Referred to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and in addition to the Committee on Homeland Security, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.
Summary
The bill changes the federal disaster relief law so that individuals and households can receive assistance when electricity outages last an extended period. It would affect anyone experiencing a long‑term power loss, giving them access to federal help. This matters because current disaster assistance does not explicitly cover prolonged outages, leaving many without needed resources.
